Patch Notes

This is an unofficial digest of Steam News, written so the rest of the wiki does not contradict itself. For the full text, use the Links Hub. Dates follow those posts. Existing saves were marked compatible on every note below; keep a backup anyway.

19 August 2026 — MarginCall Hotfix

Ownership can no longer exceed 100 percent. Buybacks on a name you control cannot inflate you past full ownership. Spinoffs are capped at one per company and only occur when the unit would be viable alone, with enough assets, in a different sector. Merged and liquidated hedge funds leave rankings and are replaced. Liquidating a subsidiary you operate now closes it.

Nested subsidiaries arrived: nest a unit under another, seed from the parent wallet, indented entity list, Nest Under Selected, and safe reparenting if the parent dies.

Financial statements stopped printing absurd 3669 percent gross margins. Typical names sit nearer 45 / 20 / 14 percent gross / operating / net. Monthly views are labelled MONTHLY (est.). Positions gained realised P/L, dividends as their own line, and options/futures on the page. Markets holdings show acquired date and income. Buy/Sell prices show on the ticket. Close buttons on open positions stopped flashing. Buildings scroll. CRT and Glow default off (they had been on by default in the 19 July CRT note). Reverse splits fire if a share drifts under $1.

If you are running a control campaign, reread How to Take Over Companies against this list. If you are reading statements, open How to Read Financials.

19 August 2026 — Digital Frontier

Crypto prices fit the start year. Eight proof-of-work coins can be mined once launched: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Monero, Dash, Zcash. Rewards scale with hash and dilute with rivals. Data centers are buildings you fill with up to 100 servers, with a fill target and a choice of market versus warehouse sourcing. Mining posts daily. Rival firms grow, list, and compete. Mining draws the power grid. Fractional coin tax is computed on real gains. See How to Run Production.

14 August 2026 — Sound Money

The largest pre-launch rebuild. Value is conserved. Several free-money tricks died (infinite production profit, loans erased on wind-down, special dividends from borrowed cash, IPO doubling net worth). Operating profit reaches the treasury. Company-to-personal transfers tax as salary. Margin cash cannot be spent twice. Net worth is one number everywhere. Leverage up to 20x works without instant close, while remaining dangerous. Written options can be bought back while cash is posted as margin. Commodities and production became one system. The data terminal was rebuilt: framed panels, headline bands, arrow-key company walk, thesis notes. This is why Controls exists as a guide.

9 August 2026 — Charting, drawing tools, global markets

About forty indicators, oscillator panes, multiple chart modes, a professional drawing toolbar, crosshair price tag, and a left rail for Positions, Orders, History, Alerts, News, Analytics. Global Markets tickets show live cost and P/L. Subsidiaries became companies you can actually run. Fastest-speed chart lag was targeted.

5 August 2026 — Custom colour themes

Seven palettes under Settings, Graphics: Terminal Green, Amber Terminal, Midnight Bloomberg, Arctic Ice, Solarized Dusk, Synthwave, and Paper. The picker uses diagonal preview squares. The whole interface follows the theme, including tickets and chart overlays. Selecting a theme pauses the sim until you hit Play. Screens load fully populated even while paused, so header figures and the book are not zero on entry.

5 August 2026 — Financial reporting and corporate empire

Full statements for every listed company: income, balance sheet, cash flow, and ratios on one ledger. Company info now shows credit rating, float and ownership, volume, EPS versus guidance, dividends, headcount, productivity, and market share. Consolidated group financials, SWITCH COMPANY, autonomy levels, activist campaigns, hedge-fund 2-and-20 fees, and an HHI reading on Economy all landed here. Details live on How to Read Financials.

30 July 2026 — Market and economy stability

Earnings are staggered across the quarter instead of printing on one shared tick. Indices keep a proper divisor. Members mark on a two-sided quote, falling back to the last real trade. Resource reserves can grow slowly through discovery and recycling. Forced liquidations and a set of unit bugs that broke early weeks of every save were repaired on load.

23 July 2026 — Avail, Hard to Borrow, cornering

Cornering a company now changes its market. The book footer shows tradable float as Avail and flags Hard to Borrow when a name is nearly cornered. AI desks can only sell what they hold and only short what they can locate. Market-makers cannot conjure infinite offers. The tape no longer prints fake bottomless volume after you own the public float. Quick-size 25 / 50 / 75 percent moved onto its own row under quantity. Play this on How to Short and Squeeze.

20 July 2026 — Hedge-fund behaviour

Contrarian and Swing funds press oversold names only when they are genuinely below fair value. Quality funds take full-size positions on healthy bargains. Non-Value funds were going bankrupt while only Value stayed profitable; that was fixed, along with chronic under-investment in their best ideas. New Game name fields accept Tab.

19 July 2026 — CRT, settings, localisation

CRT display mode, DOS versus Standard text, and a full main-menu settings tree (General, Graphics, Audio, Accessibility, Language). Company stepping on the trading terminal. Localisation across the Steam language list, CJK table alignment, German settings-window growth, and a global minimum font size. CRT later defaulted off in the August hotfix.

Earlier in August the studio also posted a Functionally Human Discord invite on Steam News; the URL is on the Links Hub.

How to play after these notes

Assume 20x is real, Avail is real, production pays, crypto has a year, and ownership maths adds to 100. Assume the monitor still wins. Then go to Getting Started or the strategy tier list. When a Steam comment contradicts a note, prefer the later note, then file leftover pain on known issues.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers drawn from the same mechanics this wiki covers in depth.

Is 20x leverage real?

Sound Money says leverage up to twenty times works as intended and no longer instant-closes on open. It is still easy to die.

Do I need a new save for Digital Frontier?

The post says existing saves are compatible. Keep a backup anyway.

Why did my IPO not double my net worth?

That free doubling was removed as a money-from-nothing exploit.

What did the 23 July 2026 patch change?

Avail and Hard to Borrow on the book, real locates for shorts, and no more fake infinite offers after you corner a float.
